The Last Free Election in the United States?

The figurative brick wall blocking the American public’s understanding of Mr. Trump and the federal government is growing rapidly, brick by brick. It increasingly resembles the Berlin Wall - the guarded concrete-and-brick barrier built by East Germany on August 13, 1961.

It is not simply dividing the United States; it is also intensifying hostilities. Authoritarians, led by Donald Trump, seek not only to control the government, economy, and military, but also to control the truth.

‘Truth’ has its own authority, an authority a strongman must defeat, at least in the minds of his followers, convincing them to abandon fact, the standards of verification, critical thinking, logic, and all the rest. Such people become a standing mind-controlled army awaiting their next command.” (NYT, Jan. 5, 2022) We saw such a promptitude army on January 6, 2021, when about 1,600 frenzied people attacked the U.S. Capitol to overturn the 2020 election results. These “Americans” constructed gallows to hang Vice President Vance, caused about $2.7 billion in damage to the US Capitol building in operational security costs to taxpayers, and five people died. Most of those who participated in the January 6^th insurrection were convicted, imprisoned, and then six years later pardoned by Mr. Trump. These individuals, along with ICE’s 22,000 employees, stand ready and await their next orders. It logically follows that we may see similar threats in the 2026 or 2028 elections. In fact, Mr. Trump has already said he intends to run for re-election in 2028, despite the 22^nd Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1951, which states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

Indeed, the midterm election this November (2026) could be the LAST FREE ELECTION in the United States unless Democrats win majorities in both the Senate and the House.
